About us

The Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency is one of the UK’s leading literary agencies representing a bestselling roster of authors and illustrators. Our particular areas of interest include fiction, non-fiction—especially human interest stories and memoirs—and all types of children's books.

Caroline Sheldon founded the agency after working at Hutchinson/Arrow as publisher of women’s fiction and children’s books. Penny Holroyde joined the agency as an agent in 2004 after working both in the UK at Walker Books and in the USA as rights director for Candlewick Press. Bryony Woods works as an assistant in the agency.

The agency has close contacts with all the major publishing houses and is also very active in the selling of film/TV, American, translation and merchandising rights.

We believe we have a reputation for submitting only manuscripts of a very high quality and that editors put submissions from us to the top of their pile. We will always be open to accepting new authors and illustrators, be they unpublished or mid-career. However, we are extremely selective. We only take on writers whose work we love.

The Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency is a member of the Association of Authors’ Agents.
