As shoes to Imelda Marcos, so books to me. I love to read them; I love to hoard them; I love the feel of them. I work in my main areas of interest—women’s fiction, children’s books and compelling non-fiction stories. I only take on a small number of new clients but when I do I become a passionate advocate for their work. My tastes are catholic and commercial. Nothing excites me more than the whiff of a bestseller.
In children’s books, I am interested in writing for all age ranges, from picture book texts for the very young, through to fiction for the middle years, through to full length novels for teenagers. Plotting, storytelling, humour, exciting worlds and contemporary life are all the things that excite me. In adult books, I particularly look for richness of storytelling.
I was thrilled to be one of six shortlisted for the prestigious Literary Agent of the Year Award 2012.
I love the daily anticipation of finding a new, natural and brilliant talent in my inbox, and I love the process of developing ideas with my clients, and being alongside them all the way from pitch to publication.
I'm looking for children's books for all ages and particularly like laugh-out-loud books aimed at middle grade children, but am always looking for anything from emotionally complex YA, real life, picture books and books for babies, as well as, for adult readers, historical settings, particularly scary ones, really compelling memoir, and anything funny or really sad. I'll love anything so long as it's really good!
