Emily Rand is an author and illustrator who works from a studio near her home in Walthamstow, East London. Emily’s intricate hand-made illustrations use a mixture of collage and drawing to create detailed and playful illustrations that celebrate often overlooked details of everyday life.

Emily was shortlisted for the prestigious Illustrators Award at the Bologna Book Fair and since then has been published by Tate Publishing, Thames & Hudson and Flying Eye and has been translated internationally. Emily’s second picture book In the Darkness of the Night (Tate Publishing) is an ode to the sounds and sights that take place after dark in a beautiful, sprawling cityscape while her latest book All Sorts (Flying Eye) written by Pippa Goodhart celebrates the diversity and variety of life on earth.

In 2019 Emily was selected by the Children’s Laureate, Lauren Child, to be featured in Drawing Words, an exhibition of contemporary UK children’s book illustration.
