Heidi Stephens is an exciting new contemporary fiction author. Her debut novel, Social Distancing (Headline, 2021), is a funny and uplifting lockdown tale featuring city girl Gemma, country boy Matthew and Gemma’s dog Mabel. It’s a feel-good story about romance, village life, Zoom-based support bubbles, mandatory dog exercise, flour shortages and the enduring power of community.
Heidi has spent her career working in advertising and marketing; some of her early writing work includes instruction manuals for vacuum cleaners, saucepans and sex toys. For the past ten years she’s also freelanced as a journalist, mostly writing about TV - on weekend evenings in autumn you can usually find her liveblogging Strictly Come Dancing for The Guardian. She lives in Wiltshire with her partner, and her labrador Mabel.
